STUDIO REVAMP New Year, New Scheme

studio revamp Erika Brechtel 2016 Richard Phillips cowhide Moroccan brass velvet marble 70s

I’m embarrassed that almost a year has flown by and I’ve made very little progress on my office space. But what better time to reboot the process than with the start of a new year?

I am happy to report that I finally found that one piece of large art that I absolutely heart (at a very affordable price!) that makes just the right statement for me: Richard Phillips’ “Spectrum” — artsy, fashion-forward, timeless.

It all came together though when I purchased a pair of dusty rose velvet curtains for tone-on-tone against the light gray walls that warms up and softens the bright pop of art and the bright white Carrera porcelain floor tiles.

Following my “5 Pieces Rule,” the new formula :
Something Textured/Patterned: dusty rose velvet curtains
Something Shiny: mirrored side table and crystal chandelier
Something Modern: art and black mid-century modern-ish chairs
Something Organic/Animal: cowhide rug (and potted palm, but of course)
Something Vintage: Moroccan handira pillows

I also recently discovered that the brass etagere I found in a thrift store for $100 may actually be a Milo Baughman for DIA piece! Say what?! I haven’t been able to find out if there is supposed to be an identifying mark of some sort to confirm this, so for now I’ll just say “why yes, it is, the best vintage score ever!“.

At any rate, I love the new scheme and it feels very ME — just how your own space to create and inspire should feel.

Are you doing any redecorating for the new year too?
