TRAVEL, IN VOGUE: Get Dressed Up for Downtime

“Fashionable Outfits for Planes, Trains, or Automobiles”

Vogue.com recently posted this photo shoot of stylish wear for the well-traveled. I thought it was pretty to look at and a lot of fun to consider, albeit not very practical. I don’t know about you, but I don’t think I’ll be packing my $1000 tops and $2500 trenches for road trips and train rides any time soon. But I can definitely appreciate the art of it, and longingly wish for the days of getting dressed up for travel.

“Private Jet to Mustique”

“Home for the Holidays”

“Road Trip through the West”

“Ferry Ride to the San Juan Islands”

“Train Ride to Boston”

Kinda in love with the outfit above though. Or maybe it’s just the Burberry coat and Hermès cuff mixed with J.Crew that’s got me a little woozy.

What are some of your must-have-when-traveling luxury items? For me: a cashmere wrap, La Mer lip balm, Tory Burch Reva flats, and an amazing leather VPL tote that was a clearance score. And hoping to get an iPad very soon! (Man, I really need to get a little getaway on the calendar!)

The “Train Ride to Boston” outfit is perfect. If I could find a way to bring that Burberry trench into my life right now, I would :) Rain or shine, cold or warm, you can always find me traveling with a pashmina, sunglasses, one black dress that can go from casual day to dressy night, a khaki trench coat, my ipod, and a slate colored Longchamp to easily hold my stuff on the go.

I wish I could travel like that but I tend to be more practical… cashmere sweaters, jeans, flats and non-wrinkle skirts..

That last outfit is my favorite too! An Hermès cuff is definitely on my “someday” list :) And I never travel without my Revas either — great minds think alike! xx

Um, I don’t care if it’s not affordable. I love each of these looks and will save them as inspiration! I leave for Paris/Monaco/Lucerne soon and want to travel this chic. xo

In college my girlfriends and I took out first ever train trip to go to Mardi Gras in NO. We got all dressed up expecting velvet cushions, rich wooden paneling, brass fixtures everywhere. Let’s just say AmTrack is a little, ahem…….not-so-glam. It was exactly like the time in SATC when Carrie and Samantha took the train to San Francisco for Carrie’s book signing. We still had a blast though!!!

Thanks for sharing these beautiful pics!

I need one of those suitcases! They are like instant glamour so it really won’t matter where you’re actually going! I always seem to take my Stella McCartney trench {clearance score!} with me everywhere and my black skinny jeans if I’m going anywhere cold. :)

Kind of reminds me of Carrie Bradshaw on her way to Morocco! I don’t travel without my Kindle!

I love the white and grey outfit sans the socks and shoes. maybe a cork wedge. Also the bags and accessories and color stories are to die for! Makes me want to take a trip right now…

How appropriate seeing as though I am hopping on a plane in 2 hours. Can’t say I’ll be looking this stylish at all.

Loving the models hair too. Mine’s nearly this long (yikes!) but definitely not as full. I swear my hair is thinning. sad.

What, you mean you don’t dress like this when you travel?? Yeah, me neither! I love it though, and I’m so with you on longing for the days when dressing up was the norm.

I’m all about comfort when I travel, for long hauls at least. I have cashmere pants (fancy sweats) that are my go-to, a cashmere throw, and extra socks. My husband works in private jets, and I’ve been lucky enough to jet set a few times. Funnily enough, the more money people have the less they care to impress. So I just pretend I’m loaded and don’t give a dam either.

Love this post! It’s so fitting because I’ve been traveling quite a bit in the last year. Loving all of these outfits, and I could only dream I would look this chic and stylish. Right now my must have item is a great pair of flats and my ipad. Definitely need to get some new clothes and luggage…

Train rides totally remind me of a SATC episode, but the trains I’ve been on definitely do not warrent couture attire. When I’m traveling, I like to wear a cardigan of somesort, comfy slacks/jeans, flats, and I always have garnier face wipes, hand lotion, lipbalm, a good book, ohh and I’m hoping to get the neverfull LV soon!

A first-class seat (when I can get one.)

    Love that last outfit.
