Just launched their Spring 2011 site!
One of the reasons I wanted to start a blog was to highlight some of my wonderful clients that I’ve had the privilege to work with, like Jellypop Shoes — I’ve been so fortunate to have designed three websites for them thus far! What’s so great about the team over at Jellypop is that they are super easy to work with; they allow me creative freedom to take their initial thoughts to the next level and beyond; and best of all, their products are so cute!
Another reason I love working with them is that they truly enjoy evolving their original brand for each season’s collection, which makes it so much fun for me! Let’s tour through how their look has grown over the three seasons. **Keep in mind, these are examples of mockups I created for their in-house team to code (except for the Flash animations which I coded), IOW not quite what eventually launches online…
SPRING 2010:
This was our first collaboration! Jellypop’s founder Jennet Chow wanted a site that needed to say “teen” as well as fun, fresh, happy and definitely spring. They provided me with an amazing amount of assets and a vision to start, then it was “go” time for me. My design intent was to incorporate collages, fabric backgrounds, and “doodles” (from illustrations they had) that could represent bulletin boards a teenage girl would have in her bedroom. Here’s what we ended up with:
[ Flash animated homepage – three collages ]
[ collection page with three categories based on a jellypop girl’s style ]
[ shoe detail page for the “girly girl” category ]
[ stores page layout ]
FALL 2010:
You can imagine taking this very happy-go-lucky spring look and translating it to fall was more of a challenge! But with Jennet’s direction to make it more vintage-y, my solution was to mute the palette, and incorporate antiqued elements, hand-drawn sketches, and the typical textures of Fall fashion — tweeds, houndstooth, velvets, etc. — creating a richly layered look:
[ Flash animated homepage – three collages ]
[ collection page with three categories based on a jellypop girl’s style ]
[ shoe detail page for the “boho rodeo” category ]
[ story page layout ]
SPRING 2011:
With this site, the homepage was changed from a Flash animation to a Javascript-coded image rotation (which I highly recommend, BTW). But in keeping with the layered “collage” concept, we decided to make it feel more free-flowing by breaking it out of the bordered area and utilizing spring-like watercolor illustrations. We kept the vintage-y feeling by continuing the use of antiqued papers, letterpressed and handwritten fonts, and hand-drawn sketches.

(I provided them with one sketch and their in-house team created the other two)
[ shoe detail page for the “cali summer days” category ]
[ story page layout ]
Hope you enjoyed touring the stylistic development created for a favorite client! Check out their adorable shoes and where to purchase them at www.jellypop-shoes.com.

Love this Erika! Thanks so much for doing a blog about Jellypop and working with us! Within our industry we always encounter different people with different talents and I just want to say that YOU are truly a blessing to us as we launched our brand. You are extremely talented and professional. We look forward to a long term relationship with you as you always make our ideas and concepts so fabulous! We were meant to work together – two working mothers who are UCLA and FIDM alums! Thank you for all your hard work, creativeness, and working so well with our team (incl. Alice Lieu and Kiki). So lucky we met! Take good care and can’t wait ’til next season!
