Forget the Pumpkin Spice Latte. I’m all about the turmeric latte.
It’s still warm here in L.A. and will be into October, but I still love sipping on something warm when I’m working away through the day. A little indulgence of late (especially when enjoyed in my grandmother’s vintage Japanese gold-rimmed china…why not?) is a quickly-made, sip-worthy turmeric latte made with Republic of Tea Turmeric Latte single-serve packets that I picked up at the newly opened Erewhon here in the Palisades Village. Sounds fancy, but at $20 for 14 packets, that’s less than $1.50 a cup.
Turmeric is known for its anti-inflammatory, anti-viral, immune-boosting properties, and recent studies have shown it can reverse harmful brain changes induced by chronic stress. It is also widely used to aid in sleep quality as it reduces anxiety, it can reduce “brain fog” and can improve mood and memory. As if that isn’t enough, it’s also good for your skin: its anti-inflammatory and antibacterial benefits help reduce redness from blemishes and rosacea, and being a natural antiseptic it’s excellent for acne as it keeps bacteria from spreading.
A much healthier alternative to the usual, seasonal flavored coffee drinks, the turmeric, ginger, vanilla, cinnamon, and monk fruit extract in the packets make it a slightly sweet, spicy blend that you can add to hot or cold water, lemonade, milk or dairy alternative, yogurt, oatmeal, or smoothies. It’s low carb, Certified Organic by the USDA, Kosher, and Certified Gluten-Free.
Best part: at only 20 calories per serving, it’s guilt-free too.
