A fun find that’s rockin’ my week
The other day I dusted off a bookjacket-less interior design book at my local vintage store, flipped through a handful of pages, and was immediately floored by the outpouring of inspiration in this $18 find. House & Garden’s Complete Guide to Interior Decoration (1981) is a treasure trove of noteworthy images that I can only describe as totally awesome, and totally relevant.
If the below images weren’t grainy, I’d bet you’d never know I pulled them from a 30-year-old book. The patterns, colors, iconic chairs, massive contemporary art, fur rugs, ottoman poufs, and excessive amounts of mirror, chrome and marble are definitely in the direction I’ve seen interior design going — or regressing back to — today. I’d also bet that many of my favorite designers have this volume in their resource libraries because I am definitely seeing the influences. But it’s not just inspiration for interior designers — creative juices of artists, graphic designers, and architects alike are a-bubblin’ (even my ultra-minimalist husband discovered a floor treatment he’d like to try in one of his projects).
What catches your eye? What are you loving here? What trends have you seen more recently?
I tagged almost every other page so this is a mere sampling. But I think you’ll agree: this book rocks it.

That python-wrapped parsons table!! Oh I am jealous — I want that book! And that blue room, it could be Miles Redd. How fun. And I am dying to see what floor treatment Justin liked…
